I once heard,
“Those who burn the brightest,
burn out the quickest.”
I suppose
that was true for us.
The candle’s flickering,
dancing flame was a marvel.
We watched it closely
and held fast
to its warmth and light.
But, it was wax after all.
Wax.
In an instant,
it died.

Wonderful, I love it!! Your poetry is spot on. I love the brevity of it, the emotion behind it. If you are looking for something kind of inspring (I hope) to read, check out http://www.bepositivebeconfident.com 🙂 Thanks so much!! Again, it was a pleasure to read your stuff 🙂

Thank you so much, Caitlyn. I appreciate you reading my work and your feedback. I also appreciate the link you provided. I read your post on MakeItUltra. I appreciate you speaking out about mental illness. I have several poems that address my own battle with it. The two–in particular–you should check out are: https://worddepot30.com/2016/02/12/a-convoluted-peace/ and https://worddepot30.com/2016/03/19/coming-on-in-waves/
Please don’t stop spreading your positivity! Best, Deah

I will definitely bookmark those to check out!! Thanks, Deah! I think more people should speak out about mental illness. Perhaps then there would not be as much stigma.

I completely agree! I think many people would be amazed how many people actually deal with it and successfully! Keep up the good work! 🙂

Hey Deah, you followed my personal blog, which is totally fine as I post more intimate stuff there, but my blog, like the post from MakeItUltra, is bepositivebeconfident.com. I’m not sure how to send readers to the specific blog and not my other blog.

Well it’s because the people who are successful don’t talk about it. Those are the people you wouldn’t know have mental illness because they hide it so well. I wish those people would come forward and be louder, so that we could have a better voice and face for mental illness. Right now it seems like there is this grave misconception of what it is to be mentally ill.

I agree. When I came out about it in my office, everyone looked at me like I was crazy. That was the only time they’ve ever looked at me like I was crazy. lol Most people don’t believe me when I tell them. It’s taken years and a LOT of hard work to get to this point, but it’s completely doable. I like to talk about it, because I am so high functioning that people forget I struggle. It’s a great platform to a certain degree, because it allows me to show people that people aren’t defined by their diagnosis. We are compassionate, strong-willed, driven, integral, and determined human beings. We love, laugh, cry, and feel just like everyone else. We just second-guess our feelings and thoughts more than others. 🙂
