Pulling Teeth

When I was about 21. I stood on the shoreline for hours, collecting sharks’teeth. I still have them to this day.
I never saw the shark, but I knew it existed by something it left behind.
I knew it possessed great power to destroy–these ancient beasts.
Primitive, wild, and instinctual. This is their existence.
Somewhere between 21 & 35, I moved past collecting sharks’ teeth. Those sunny, hopeful days turned to distant, bygone years.
I’ve seen the shark now. It’s not at all what I imagined.
To know. Was it worth the exertion and sunburn?
