Her tired eyes—
no matter how much sleep
she acquired—
bespoke
abnormal neural circuitry.
Tis the season to be jolly
was an unattainable wish.
She always
had to brace herself
for this time of year.
The cold and the gray
had a way
of bringing her
to her knees.
