via Daily Prompt: Exposure

Do not take me back to
the place I was before,
where heartache bred so heavily
and lunatics were keeping score.
Do not lay me down in
your idea of emerald green,
where fences tall hide the beauty
of things that should be seen.
Do not spin me ’round in circles
and call this jig a dance,
where dizzying whirlwinds disavow control
and then expect an upright stance.
Do not offer me a perfect cruise
and only provide a rocking boat,
where storms continue to capsize
and then demand I stay afloat.
Do not build the perfect kingdom
with the caveat of enclosure.
For, I will always choose what’s wild and free,
where the wind blows in untamed exposure.
