Deah Caldwell Poetry

What are you doing?
You are being brave.
You are getting deliberate
with each step,
and the staircase
is scary as hell.
It is winding and tall–
Escher come to life.
But, you are standing
with your fear and pain.
You are allowing
your racing heart
to set the pace
for each step you take,
not prevent them.
Though your knees
and hands shake,
you are climbing.
And, that my darling
is heroism.
